The people who attended the planning commission meeting of July 22 said nothing happened that was even worth writing down.

What a relief.  It’s always good when the Page County Planning Commission does nothing.

On a side note, there is an issue regarding Age-restricted subdivisions.  At a previous Board meeting work session, a company called Century Luray asked the Board to send a rewrite of the zoning ordinance to allow an age-restricted subdivision ordinance in the county.   The idea is that a subdivision could be put in place whereby all the people who buy houses there MUST be over age 55 and have no children under 18 living with them.  At least one spouse must be over 55.  Then the subdivision could have a set amount of green space and a buffer around it, and in return for the green space and buffers, there could be smaller lot sizes.    This is because old people don’t want big lawns.

So this issue will be coming before the planning commission at the next work session, which is August 12.  Now, Century Luray owns 60 acres right outside the Town of Luray near Antioch Road.  They want this ordinance in place first, and then they would have to ask for a rezoning so they could build this development.  The good thing is:  if they built 133 houses there would be a goodly amount of real estate tax going to the county, on land that is currently in Land Use and only bringing in a couple of pennies.

Like all Land Use does.

Remember this Land Use issue.  It’s going to come up again next budget cycle when they try to squeeze more blood out of the turnips.

So, let developers come in and put in retirement communities.  We need the rich old people to retire here and help pay taxes for the schools.   And the new cells we’ll have to build at the landfill.
